Some people don't care. Thats why they wouldn't want to vote in the first place. So even if they are now forced to vote, it does not mean they'll start caring for the elections.

But first voting is a right. for voting to be a responsibility it has to be a right. It has to be the right of everyone above 18 years old before it can be there responsibility. So voting is more of a right then a responsibility.

1 point

Yes, but for voting to be a proper responsibility it has to be a right first. The fact that everyone can vote right now, shows that voting is more of a right than a responsibility.

1 point

Its peoples choice to be responsible and vote, because they don't have to vote if they don't want to. Forcing people to vote might not prove much, as people will just put random votes. It won't do good to the country anyways.

1 point

If voting is not a right, then the people in power will discriminate between people on the basis of race, language, religion and color of skin. Creating an equal society where everyone has a right of selecting their representatives would keep all people positive and the society would be more tightly knit with less conflicts. Otherwise the society would be dominated by people of one type, whether it be color or religion, and they would suppress people who are different. Such a society would never be stable and would always have lack of justice and lack of trust among people.

US

15th amendment (1870) gave african americans the right to vote

19th amendment (1920) gave women the right to vote

26th amendment (1971) gave right to all above 18 years of age

UK

In 1918, all men above 21 and all women above 30 got right to vote

In 1928, all women above 21 got right to vote

This responsibility puts an undue burden of responsibility on some people who either do not have the information or the time to form a judgment about who is the right candidate. Its not fair to punish people who don't want to vote for each candidate. It's there right if they want to vote.

1 point

If people are forced to vote, some people might just make a wrong choice in haste to avoid the penalties that might be imposed by the government on those who do not vote. They would not think much and just vote randomly. This might lead to a wrong choice.
